1. What do you think of this Missouri school district's policy?

Newtown, Connecticut shooting

5. What was THE most important part of the training for the teachers? - in your opinion - EXPLAIN WHY YOU SELECTED YUOR ANSWER
In order for teachers to carry there own guns they had to pass a background check, drug test, and mental evaluation every year. I choose this because most events occur by what things go on in there mind and a factor with that is decision making and that can fall under mental evaluation.
6. Why were some parents upset over this new policy?
They didn't like the way the information was passed on to them and parents think that schools and teachers shouldn't just be carrying guns around school
7. Opinion time - DO YOU THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA - WHY OR WHY NOT - PLEAE USE RATIONAL ARGUMENTS TO MAKE YOUR POINT
I think that it is good for teachers to carry weapons in school because as a student you feel safe that hey my teacher has a gun so we will be able to fend off an intruder. Also teachers are trained not just given a gun, they are put through a series of tests/obstacles as part of there training
1) I think having teachers carry sidearms is a reasonable idea.
ReplyDelete2) The justification the district used was the Sandy Hook shooting.
3) Other alternatives include hiring armed guards and implementing a security system.
4) Liability insurance could include any time something happens that causes injury or damage.
5) The most important part of the teachers' training would be the background check and the mental evaluation because if a teacher is given permission to use firearms to protect students it is important to know that the teacher is not a threat to students.
6) Some parents didn't like that there was a press release about it because it would seem like they're just letting the world know that teachers carry guns at the school.
7) I think this is a good idea because the world is full of dangers. Even schools aren't totally safe any more. The teachers are trained and evaluated so it's not like just anybody is getting a gun.
1. I don't think teachers should be able to carry side arms because not only is it a waste of money to provide weapons for them but it could also be a hazard to the students. You have to think of the possibility if a student was to get a hold of the gun.

3. Instead of arming teachers, they could actually get more security guards to watch around the area.
4. The liability of a teacher being able to carry a gun around students.
5. I think that every part of the training is important. If I had a choice, it would be their background check. Just because someone's a teacher doesn't mean they're not going to hurt the students.
6. The parents didn't think it was ground breaking.
7. I don't think letting teachers have side arms is a good idea. There are too many risks. People always say that it's the person's fault and not the gun's. What if a student get's it? Having guns in school like that just makes disaster quicker.

4. maybe like that insurence should cover any accedent that would happen at the school with weapons
5. well if it was up to me I think I would make drills where the teachers were given fake guns to practice on. Because they need to make sure they know what to do in a given situation. 6. i think some parents were probably just mad at the idea because they want school to be a safe place and now it has guns
7. I think with the right training teachers, students and parents will feel safer sending their kids to school

ReplyDelete2. The Newtown shooting.
3. More security and having a more strict policy on who can come in and out of the campus.
4. Liability insurance meaning who is responsible in case of an accident at a school with weapons present.
5. The teachers would need to know how to use a gun, in case of an emergency or else there would be no point in having them. Also, they would have to know the appropriate times to use their weapons.
6. They were upset by the way the news was handled and most do not consider a place with guns the most "safe" environment for their children.
7. I think it is not a good idea. Even with proper training, in the heat of the moment, even teachers make wrong decisions. I think the risk of crime would increase. They should leave the responsibility of carrying a weapon to the professionals.

No I do not because its never safe to have teachers with guns in school because you never know what could happen. An accident or intended use of the gun by a teacher or student could lead to many dead.
