Respond to the following prompts -

If this same incident happened in the US - who should be allowed to prosecute the soldier that committed the crime? The US or the soldier's home country?

Who is prosecuting this American soldier? Do you think this is fair? Why or Why not?

  1. I think he should be tired by the Afgan's , then they should let us try him. I think doing that would make it fair. Its a pet peeve of mine when people generalize some because of a group they are apart of and Vise Versa. His actions do not show the rational of American Troops. People will try to make this political and say "we need to pull out because its making them crazy". That is only partial true with SOME troops. I would see their point if there was a draft , but people choose to go there (by joining the armed forces)

  2. I think the person should be tried in the country he committed the crime in. If someone did that in the US, he should be tried in the US. They brought him back to the US and I think they are going to prosecute him here, but it wouldn't have the same effect here because it did not happen to us. The Afgans are far more passionate about it than we are which could lead to bias judgement though. I think he should be tried in both places to be safe and each place should work together to come up with a proper sentence. No one can be perfect the there is always going to be unfairness in justice.

  3. I think that he should definitely be cut out by the Afghan's, then after that i think he should be tried for his crimes. I also think that the country that he committed the crime in should be the country that is able to prosecute him. He bas brought back to the U.S, but we arent as concerned about it as they are so i think either place is fine though.

  4. Let's take a look at what we did: After the events of 9/11, we hunted the young Saudi, Osama bin Laden, to convict him for his crimes committed toward the people of the United States (of course we began nation-building and spending trillions overseas but that's a different story). I believe that the government of Afghanistan should be able to prosecute the soldier for his actions. Would we just roll over and allow an Afghani to come here and shoot a lot of people and go back home?
